I followed these questions... only a little out of order. The first question I asked was where do I want to be in five years? After I had a picture in my mind, I started planning steps to get there and giving each one a specific deadline.
After that I went and spent a lot of money on highly recommended training courses and one high-priced seminar.
I think the most important thing I did was to not give myself the option to fail. After I landed my first client, I quit my job (with about 3 months of living expenses in the bank and a bunch of dreams) and said "this is what I do."
Say it enough and believe in yourself, and other people will believe in you and give you a chance. I haven't had to beg for work since, I just confidently tell people what I can do, then I deliver.

Good post! Thanks for the thoughts. This is my first visit to your blog, so my question is, what steps did you take in the beginning to make your idea a reality?
